Chapter 236: | 236 | The Revolting Tide
The one that stood above this organization of liberation was the sole dragon that existed in the Ferus Sea. Laplace, the Dragon of Destruction. It was through her power that the borders of the Frontier remained clear as ever.
No human fleet ever made it out of the Frontier as the Dragon of Destruction guarded its borders.
Slightly below the Dragon of Destruction were the three beast deities who remained integral figures of the Revolting Tide. These deities were the Albuma, the Tigris of Authority, Velvet, the Vermillion of Opportunity, and Solstice, the Tortoise of Protection.
Along with the Dragon of Destruction, Laplace, these three were the gods of the Ferus Sea, worshiped by all beastfolks that desired for their protection. And until the present, they remained as the gods of the Frontier.
Though the Dragon of Destruction fell into madness, forcing the three gods to cast her out from the organization, becoming the sole deities of the Revolting Tide. However, it all changed when the United World Government was created.
The creation of a new country in the middle of humanity\'s colonial dominions was an astounding news. The country also consisted of beastfolk and humans alike, living together in harmony. To those within the Frontier, it was as though the heavens had fallen into the earth.
Such a place couldn\'t have existed. It sounded more like the heavens of those deities were food, shelter, and safety weren\'t scarce. Despite the doubts of beastfolks and humans throughout the Ferus Sea, some still decided to find the country.
After all, while most wouldn\'t dare to risk their lives for some fruitless endeavor. There were few who were willing to sail through the treacherous waves and reach the so-called paradise.
These few numbered in thousands.
Even though the Frontier remained outside of humanity\'s dominion, the lives of the ordinary beastfolk within weren\'t that much different from the beastfolks\' under humanity\'s control. They still needed to slave away their bodies for owners.
Although the practice was rare before the Dragon of Destruction fell into madness, since her disappearance in the apex of the Revolting Tide, slavery had become frequent. It made many wonder what the Revolting Tide was supposed to stand for.
Did it really stand for liberation? Why were they still slave? Where was their freedom? Such questions resulted in the death of many, as such those who remained didn\'t dare to question the laws of their society.
It had become a fact, a law of the world. It was as natural as the heat of flames, the hardness of stone, and freshness of water. It was their destiny until the very end of their lives.
The paradise within the dominions of humanity gave them a tinge of hope. Even if it was nothing more but rumors, they wanted to reach a place better than the Revolting Tide or the Colonial Dominions of Humanity. As long as it was a tinge better, they would call it paradise.
The deities of the Revolting Tide didn\'t care much about the United World Government. They didn\'t think of it as much since it didn\'t threaten their rule over the Frontier. But when the news about the Dragon of Liberation came to be. They were reminded of the Dragon of Destruction.
Although the Dragon of Liberation seemed much more stronger than the former colleague, they still needed to confirm what or who it really was. As such, along the refugees that wished to reach paradise, they sent one of their treasured followers.
A priestess skilled in the art of psychic magicraft, a forbidden study of magic. The quests given to her by the three deities were to find out the identity of the Dragon of Liberation, sow discord within the new country, and destroy it if possible.
It was fairly clear, and the priestess was confident in destroying the new country with remarkable ease. But it all changed when she arrived in the United World Government, specifically the City of Dawn. It was a place where all kinds of beastfolks along with humans dwelled.
It was the perfect city, the best place for her magicraft.
The priestess targeted the beastfolks that reached the city with her. They were easy to entice as her psyche spells were easy to learn and were pretty powerful against those without power. After getting inside the city, she managed to meet the temporary director of the Special Response Division.
The supposed organization that would take care of anything related to magicraft. As long as she could take a tinge of control over the organization, she would be free to wreak havoc in the city. It would be hers for the taking and there would be nothing that could stop her.
Or so she thought, oh, how she was wrong.
...
After discovering the conspiracy unfolding within the City of Dawn, Abraham had temporarily given Laplace his entire authority over the country. While the circumstance was precarious, the duration of the Naval Task was almost reaching its end.
He didn\'t think that it would require his full intervention. Though, to assure that Laplace doesn\'t go wild with his authority. He decided to have his daughter who seemed to be more sound than the two of them to take care of her mother.
For a 1-month child, she was a genius. That was all he could say.
"It looks like Laplace is planning to utilize the United Navy and United Airforce to blockade the entirety of the City of Dawn. This would ensure that no more of the psyche spells would be scattered to nearby cities in the region."
Abraham muttered to himself and continued. "It doesn\'t sound bad, but it would incite the most panic. No one wants to get trapped by mind-controlled people. Though, I guess from the population statistics, most of them had already been affected by the spell one way or the other."
"For the situation not to worsen, Laplace only has a couple of hours to find the culprit of the conspiracy and take them under our custody. And it should be easy to capture the bastard. After all, tracking down refugees who have become wealthier in a short timeframe is simple to do."
"The problem with anything related to mind control is the fact that it corrupts. It makes one\'s arrogance higher, thinking that there would be nothing and no one that could stop them. After all, who could? The operation in the slums might alert them, but its already too late."
"I can\'t wait to meet whoever this bastard is." The edges of his lips rose as he coldly smiled while gazing at the city below the Citadel. Installation 0 had become larger than ever before, transforming into a city of its own. It was practically the capital of the United World Government.
Though, the hidden capital.
The United World Government officially resides in the City of Dawn, making it the formal capital of the country. While he hadn\'t been active in the politics of his country, he had been suggesting some ideas in the corner.
He wasn\'t directly ordering his subordinates, so it still remained in the confines of the Naval Task. Amongst such ideas was ensuring that magicraft had no power within the Citadel and it surroundings. And they were almost there, along with the most biggest project of the United Navy.
"The future is intriguing... I can\'t wait."
Meanwhile, within the City of Dawn, martial law has been declared as everything had been temporarily suspended. Within the Office of the United World Government, the House of Oriens, the Prime Minister found herself confused by the deployment of all military organizations in the country.
Even her subordinates were unable to figure out the unexpected martial law and deployment. The only one with such power was the Authority, yet she remained ignorant of why it was declared towards the City of Dawn.
Mercedes walked through the halls of the Oriens and soon arrived at the office of the Prime Minister. She saw Charlotte who was going through several calls from concern higher personnel throughout the City of Dawn.
"Charlotte, was this your doing?" The Director of the Atlas Corporation questioned the Prime Minister, who merely furrowed her gaze and replied. "Does it look to you that I\'m the culprit of all of this?"
"The United Navy and United Airforce just got deployed. They are blockading the island and making sure that none could go in or out of the city." Charlotte continued while rubbing her eyebrows. It has been a while since she felt so powerless.
"Do you think its Abraham?" Mercedes asked the Prime Minister as he was the only one with the authority to override everything and everyone within the country. Charlotte narrowed her gaze at the Director and responded. "He\'s the only one I can think of right now."
"Hey, don\'t look at me like that. The Cerberus also got deployed without my directive. My own and personal organization turned up out of nowhere without giving me a warning or two." Mercedes wryly smiled as Charlotte wasn\'t the only one feeling powerless.
"There\'s no need to feed bad, Aunties." Out of nowhere, a soft voice resounded. It came from a little girl with jet-black hair and sapphire-like irises.
It was Tiamat, the little lizard.
