Chapter 423: 166 resolved, a few bigwigs coming to Xiangcheng_2
“Awake?” Bai Lian’s grip loosened, and the steel washbasin dropped to the ground with a clang.
She slowly bent over, school uniform still stained with Yang Lin’s not-yet-dry blood, a smile tracing her lips.
Yang Jianping was used to throwing his weight around, and with a flick of his hand, he aimed to throw something at Bai Lian.
But she blocked it effortlessly with two fingers.
In Yang Jianping’s terrified gaze, she smiled faintly, seized him by the neck, and lifted him up: “How could there be someone like you here…”
Then, casually tossing him to the ground, Yang Jianping’s forehead glistened with cold sweat as he shakily got up from the floor.
Bai Lian advanced, driving him step by step to the door with the tip of her knife.
Her smile was tender, and she seemingly exerted no considerable effort, with the knife point never actually touching Yang Jianping’s body.
With each step he took backwards, the terror in his eyes intensified.
It ended at the top of the staircase.
Bai Lian looked at the stairs behind him, slowly dragged the knife up his face with the point ending on his eyeball, “Did your deskmate ‘accidentally’ fall from here before?”
Yang Jianping’s eyes suddenly widened.

Amidst the chaos of the western city’s Tube Building area, Jiang Fulai arrived to find Bai Lian standing under the sole streetlight.
She hung her head slightly, the moonlight casting a leisurely glow as she leaned against the streetlight with a lily tucked in her pocket and fiddling with a lighter in her hand, her cold pale fingers pressing it, a crimson flame dancing to life.
Her blue and white school uniform was open, bearing stains of still-wet blood.
Jiang Fulai approached without a hint of a smile on his lips, closing the car door and striding over. With light and shadow interwoven beneath the moonlight, the dark fabric of his clothes fluttered in the wind, his presence sharp and fierce like the chilling light of a knife’s edge.
“Ah,” Bai Lian looked up, her fingers halting, “Wait, this is Yang Lin’s blood.”
She spoke.
Jiang Fulai pursed his lips, nodded his head after confirming, “Xu Nanjing is at the hospital.”
“I’ve called the police,” Bai Lian lifted her head, “They haven’t arrived yet. I’ll wait a while longer.”
“No need,” Jiang Fulai glanced coolly over her shoulder and reached out to take the lighter from her hand, “Someone will take care of the remaining matters.”
Bai Lian stared at her lighter, “Oh,” she uttered.
Xiangcheng’s best hospital was somewhat far from where Yang Lin was.
Crossing the ring road and then through Wallow Avenue, luckily there was no traffic jam at this hour. When Bai Lian and Jiang Fulai arrived, the young master of the Jiang family was getting scolded by the attending physician.
“She’s malnourished and got such severe injuries, yet you didn’t bring her in time, we almost couldn’t save her!”
No one had ever scolded the esteemed young master like that, apart from Jiang Fulai.
He clenched his cigarette, glanced at the emergency room with a laugh—
He remembered.
Bai Lian was negotiating with the doctors.
Out in the hallway, Xu Nanjing took a drag of his cigarette, and the nurse glanced at him, daring not to stop him.
“Who is that?” He cocked his head towards Jiang Fulai.
Jiang Fulai, looking in Bai Lian’s direction, slowly said, “Her classmate.”
Xu Nanjing raised an eyebrow, “Understood.”
Fine, Bai Lian, a mere classmate, managed to break the young master Jiang’s principle of loving experiments.
After Bai Lian and Jiang Fulai left, Xu Nanjing took out his phone and snapped a photo of their retreating figures, sending it to his mother.
—[Who is that next to you?]
Xu Nanjing: [Sister Bai Lian]
It only took two days for Xu Nanjing to call Bai Lian ‘sister’ fluently.
From across the screen, Xu Nanjing’s mother was obviously surprised: [She’s wearing a school uniform, looks very well-behaved]
Xu Nanjing thought for a while: [She studies every day]
This was what Ming Dongheng had said, he mentioned he had never seen someone who loved studying more than Bai Lian.

Xu Nanjing arranged for a caregiver to look after Yang Lin.
Yang Lin didn’t wake up until the afternoon of the next day.
Xu Nanjing booked a private room with its own reception area. When Bai Lian arrived, he was sitting in the outside living room, holding a piece of paper, leg resting on the coffee table, with the deputy director by his side.
“How did you fall down the stairs?” Xu Nanjing gave the deputy director a polite smile, “Do you need me to reenact it, or are you suspecting me?”
The deputy director wiped the sweat from his forehead. This young master looked friendly, but dealing with him felt even more pressured than dealing with Chief Chen.
“Not at all,” he laughed nervously.
Yang Jianping had a history of previous occurrences, and now he was also suspected of human trafficking, so the deputy was just following up as a matter of routine.
“People are still blatantly human trafficking these days,” Xu Nanjing tossed the paper onto the table, having always been bold and brash, “What has Chen Yongkun been doing for the past half a year?”
This continued until Bai Lian entered.
Xu Nanjing put away his half-amused expression, looked up, gave Bai Lian a smile, and also greeted Pu Xiaohan who was with her.
