Chapter 427 - 421: They All Have Status

“This is my cousin, Kay Lee. Kay, this is Brother James.” After introducing James to everyone, Thunder Davis led him directly to Kay Lee and rapidly introduced him.

“Nice to meet you, Kay. I’m actually a fan. I love your movies and songs.” As soon as Thunder Davis finished the introduction, Norton James excitedly spoke up, eagerly extending a hand for a handshake.

Kay Lee hesitated for a moment. Given her long time in the industry, she had met all kinds of people. Despite her young age, she had sharp eyes when it came to men. She had a pretty good idea of what this man wanted, even if she couldn’t guess everything right on target.

Unlike the man named Elegant Sky she had just met, James’s smile was artificial, and his words were even more so. Kay had a close friend, Sarah Wood, who had told her about these third-generation men, especially those with powerful backgrounds. It was one thing for them to claim liking a song, but claiming to be a fan was just nonsense.

Sarah had revealed a lot of insider information to Kay. So, she was well aware of these circles, which made James’s words seem incredibly false. Still, she quickly reached out for a handshake to keep appearances, since he was there to celebrate her grandfather’s birthday. But she withdrew her hand quickly before James could even get a firm hold.

The smile froze on James’s face, and though he quickly recovered, his expression visibly tensed.

“Mr. James, nice to meet you.” Kay directly addressed him as ‘Mr. James’, the implications clear in her attitude.

“Kay, what do you mean by this? He’s a relative of ours. Why are you being so cold?” Thunder Davis angrily butted in.

“What does it have to do with you?” Kay’s attitude towards Thunder was far from polite. She turned away with a stern face and retorted, leaving Thunder infuriated to the point of turning red. Finn Lewis thought that Thunder might even resort to physical violence out of frustration if it weren’t for the crowd of onlookers.

“Never mind, it’s okay. We’re not familiar yet, but that’ll change. Anyway, Kay, my grandpa and your grandpa were comrades. Wouldn’t it be fair for us to consider each other family? I wonder if you could do me a favor?” James asked Kay.

“Mr. James, you should refer to me as Kay Lee. I am just an ordinary, vulnerable woman. My family doesn’t have the power to assist someone like you. I fear you may be disappointed.” Kay dismissed him, leaving no room for negotiation. However, this rejection did not faze James; he had anticipated such a response.

With a slight smile, James continued, “Kay, I believe only you can help with this. I’ve started a new company to develop a national cell phone brand. We’ve already reached an agreement with Huawei for a joint venture. The company’s registered capital is around one billion Flame Nation coins. Our new product needs an endorsement, and with your influence, could you please consider being our ambassador?”

“As for the endorsement fee, we’re flexible. How does a hundred million a year sound?” James suggested boldly, a sum that even made bystanders gasp. A hundred million per year? Such an endorsement fee would be incredibly high for any celebrity, equating to roughly 20 million Federal coins a year. Even many international megastars did not command such high endorsement fees.

The news left the Davis clan’s younger members gasping in disbelief. The ensuing buzzing chatter was music to James’s ears. He relished the idea of having caused such a sensation.

“I’m sorry.” Without hesitation or concern for the reactions of those around her, Kay shook her head and declined, “I already have a few endorsement contracts. Given the yearly rate you’re suggesting, you could get any top-tier star worldwide, including those from Floral Village. You have better options, Mr. James.”

“You’re declining?” James looked at Kay in surprise. He had heard that Kay’s contract had been terminated, but he didn’t know why. Kay owed a significant amount of money, didn’t she? With no movie roles, album releases, or TV dramas coming her way, and only a couple of endorsements, how could she manage to make a living? This is why James was confident that Kay couldn’t possibly decline such a lucrative endorsement offer. He had plenty of time to win her over once the contract was signed.

What he never thought of in his wildest dreams was that Kay would indeed decline. A total, ultimate rejection. Prior to coming here, he did not regard Kay Lee’s family as anything significant. Although his grandfather and Kay’s were wartime buddies, they were just that, and the old men were getting on in years. No one knew when they would pass away.

Although the Davis Clan also had a company worth tens of billions, Norton never cared about that. They had no other background, and he could play around with them as he pleased. Furthermore, Kay didn’t get along with her father, did she?

“Yes, I’m sorry, but I must decline the offer because I’m too exhausted,” Kay said without emotion.
